On the episode "The Stolen Earth" why was Dalek Cann's body cast open, and also why has he speeking in a less meaner tone and why are wire's in him? I fort he would be Leader of the Dalek Race. Oh and how come the Suprime Dalek has got them gold thing going to his body to his headpart?
Dalek Caan did an emergency temporal shift back to the Time War, in order to save Davros before he was killed at The Gates of Elysium. The experience, however, drove Dalek Cann mad.
It is obvious that he is still useful to the Daleks though, since it seems that he has an uncanny ability to either fortel the future or detect approaching danger. So the Daleks have opened his casing and have connected him up to a life support system in order to keep him alive.
The gold features on the Supreme Dalek's armoured shell, are simply a design feature copied from the 1950s Russian satellite Sputnik, and apparently have no specific function in the story except to make him a bit different from the other Daleks (from the official Doctor Who web site and Doctor Who Confidential).
