Repairing old jewelry box, need advice?
I bought an old Japanese mass-produced jewelry box and it needs a lot of work. It is laquered and has some splits in the wood, the music box is dead and several little hinges need pins.
Should I attempt this on my own (zero experience) (what kind of glue should I use?
or take it to the ...who? The clockmaker in town?
Either way my expectations are not too high. I bought it for sentimental reasons. (My Uncle was in the Pacific in WW2 and he bought a box like this for my Grandma. I often played in her jewel box as a child.)
Try it - if it wasn't too expensive - if you don't get good results - you have an idea for trying again - wood can be glued - be careful not go get on the lacquer. Music boxes and hinges can be purchased at craft stores -
Go go ahead and try - experience does count if you don't succeed the first time.
PS.. I also had one of these jewelry boxes. They were really something back then.
